Description of the excursion Famagusta
We will cross the border between Greek and Turkish part of Cyprus and enter the occupied area (occupied by Turkey in 1974). Famagusta is famous for its Gothic Saint Nicolas cathedral built in 1312. You will have a chance to see it and go inside. You will have free time in the city center for shopping, lunch, and a stroll to the Venetian walls which protect the city from the sea.
Ancient Salamis city-kingdom has a remarkable amphitheater, ancient spa and hall with massive columns.
Then we will visit Othello Castle which was built by Lusignans with its old icons which represent the Christian times of northern Cyprus.
We will also drive through what was once the richest city but is now known as the ghost city - Varoshi. The city was abandoned due to the war in 1974. All the houses and furniture are still there...
